With new SD-WAN offerings of sd wan vendors, securing and improving internet connections makes it more competitive with traditional or legacy WAN technologies like MPLS or T-1. It is also used in replacing costly solutions, with virtualization technology applying virtual private networking (VPN) technology and security to broadband internet connectivity. It removes the costly routing hardware and provides flexibility through provisioning connections and services controlled through a cloud software, allowing scaling up connections during peak demand times. The ultimate goal of SD-WAN technology is to be able to deliver a simple, secure and business-class cloud-based and cloud-enabled WAN connection with as much software-based and open technology as possible, delivering basic WAN connections as well as do premium business services like WAN optimization, applications delivery control (ADC), security, Naas or VPN.
